Ellen Pompeo Gives Birth to Daughter
Stella Luna is First Child for “Grey’s Anatomy” Star
Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo, who plays Dr. Meredith Grey, gave birth to her first child, daughter Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery September 15. Pompeo, 39, has been married to record producer Chris Ivery since 2007.
Stella Luna was born in Los Angeles where the family lives and where Pompeo films Grey’s Anatomy. Pompeo is originally from a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts, as is husband Ivery.
The new Grey’s Anatomy season starts Thursday, September 24, 2009 on ABC.
Pompeo’s first major role was in Moonlight Mile in 2002, alongside Susan Sarandon, Dustin Hoffman and Jake Gyllenhaal. She later starred in Old School and Catch Me If You Can, alongside such stars as Will Ferrell and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Co-Stars and New Moms
Pompeo’s co-star Katherine Heigl recently adopted a daughter from South Korea with musician husband Josh Kelley. The two named their daughter Naleigh, after Heigl’s mother Nancy and sister Margaret Leigh. Naleigh is a special needs child, and Heigl says she is ready for the challenge. About Naleigh she said she, was actually born the day before me in November, "which I thought was really serendipitous and just kind of like a sign."
Some controversy has surrounded Heigl recently as some comments she made about her time on Grey’s Anatomy did not go over well with the show’s producers. She has since said she will be taking a break from the show.
Heigl is the star of such movies as Knocked Up and 27 Dresses.
Other Celebrity Moms and Moms-To-Be
Another new celebrity mom, Sarah Michelle Gellar, gave birth to daughter Charlotte Grace Prinze with actor husband Freddie Prinze Jr. The two have been married since 2002. Gellar, 32, and Prinze co-starred in I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997.
Reality stars Kourtney Kardashian and Kendra Wilkinson Baskett will both become new moms in December. Kardashian announced her pregnancy in August and soon after confirmed the father is boyfriend Scott Disick, with whom she broke up in the season finale of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Her announcement came right before the debut of Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. Kardashian currently is filming for the new season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
Baskett announced her pregnancy in June with athlete husband, new Colts player Hank Baskett, whom she wed in June. Her reality show, Kendra, on E! chronicled the early stages of her pregnancy. The show is slated to return for a second season.
The two pregnant E! stars recently appeared on the cover of US Weekly. They are both due around Christmastime.
